Unicoi County and Erwin Win $2.642 Million for Nolichucky River Access
State Rep. Renea Jones announced $2.642 million in state funding for recreation and infrastructure along the Nolichucky River, reported Sept. 3. Unicoi County received $2.25 million for the lower Nolichucky takeout, with proposed improvements including a new river access ramp for rafts and tubes, a restroom and two covered eating areas, and the Town of Erwin received $392,000 for trail and river access. The county said the "Lower Noli Takeout" is meant to serve paddlers and commercial outfitters, among others.
Northeast Tennessee Visitor Spending Tops $1 Billion in 2025
Data from Tourism Economics and the Tennessee Department of Tourist Development, reported Aug. 31, put 2025 visitor spending in the eight-county Northeast Tennessee region, which includes Unicoi County, at $1,009,706,301, an 8.9% increase from 2024. Statewide spending rose 2.7% to a record $32.5 billion, as Tennessee announced on Aug. 4. The figures cover all travel, not rafting alone.
